The
red and black together
Effect:
The
spectator is
asked to choose a card and to place it face up on the table. Another
card of different color is placed face up next to it; creating
two columns. In the left column is the black card and in the right is
the red card.
The performer takes out a
few cards from the
deck one after the other and asks the spectator to guess the color of
each card. Each card is placed face down in one of the two columns
below the card previously dealt. If the spectator predicts the card
is red, it will be placed in the right column; if it is black,
it will be placed in the left column.
After dealing a
few cards in each column, a black card is placed face up in the right
column and a red card in the left column.
And the performer
goes on dealing the cards, asking the spectator to guess the color of
each card, except that now if the spectator says the card is red, it
will be placed in the left column and if she says it is a black card,
it will be placed in the right column.
After
dealing a few cards more into each column, they are returned and the
color of each card matches with the color of the card dealt face up.
Is your
spectator becoming a soothsayer?
Performing:
This
trick does
not require any preparation, it is an impromptu and easy card
trick to perform.
Here are the steps to follow:
| 1)
Have your spectator to choose a card. |

|

| 2)
If she chooses a black card, ask her to concentrate in her
choice and to choose a red card and vice versa. The black
card is
placed in the left column and the red card in the right column. |

If
she doesn't choose the good color, tell her, you need more practice,
I am going to help you choose one this time. Take a red card
from the deck and place it face up on the table next to the other. If
she chooses a red card, congratulate her for her choice and invite her
to go
on like that.

3)
Explain
to your spectator that she will have to guess the color of the card
that you are going to take out of the deck. If she tells it is
a
black card, you will place it face down in the column where
the
face up card is black and vice versa
In fact you take
out only red cards (photo 4), so that in one column all of the red
cards are placed and in the other column they are reversed. It is
important your spectator believes you are dealing red and black cards
randomly. After dealing a few red cards in each column, tell
her "Now I'm going to invert the colors in each column", as
you talk, take a black card that you place face up in the right
column below the cards previously dealt (Photo 7).

At
this point, take out only black cards, so that in the right column,
all the cards are well placed and in the left column they are all
reversed.
You are going to return the
cards in the right column
below the last face up card returned, as you dealt only black at that
point, the color will match, the spectator will be amazed but it is
not enough.
Return now the remaining face down cards of the
right column, they are all red, the color will match again with the
color of the first card dealt in the right column.

Tell
your
spectators "You correctly guessed the colors of the cards in the
right column; it would be impressive if the cards' colors in the left
column match also with the two cards dealt face up.”
As you
are talking, gather all the cards of the left column except the first
one and return this whole block of cards, spreading them below the
first card dealt in the left column. By doing this, you place the
bottom cards of the column (all black cards) below the first card.
The red card that was
face up is now facing down; you just have to return it, to show that
it matches with the red cards below (Photo 15).
